THE STORY OF AFTERNOON TEA

Afternoon Tea remains to this day a graceful affair to be enjoyed in the company of family and friends. It is a social event that was made fashionable for the upper class by Anna, Duchess of Bedford, in the early nineteenth century.  There’s something very special about this ritual. No one is quite sure when afternoon tea was first introduced in England, but the ceremony became widespread in the 1840s when Afternoon tea was introduced in England by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, in the year 1840. The Duchess would become hungry around four o’clock in the afternoon. The evening meal in her household was served fashionably late at eight o’clock, thus leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner. The Duchess asked that a tray of tea, bread and butter (some time earlier, the Earl of Sandwich had had the idea of putting a filling between two slices of bread) and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her. This pause for tea became a fashionable social event. During the 1880’s upper-class and society women would change into long gowns, gloves and hats for their afternoon tea which was usually served in the drawing room between four and five o’clock.

Traditional afternoon tea consists of a selection of dainty sandwiches, including a course thinly sliced cucumber sandwich, sconces served with a clotted cream and preserves. Cakes and pastries are also served. Tea is poured from silver pots into delicate bone china cups.

Today, in the average suburban home, afternoon tea is likely to be just a biscuit or small cake and a mug of tea, usually produced by using a teabag!

Lily Creek Farms Ministry (Hope Built on Faith)

To bring the salvation message of Jesus Christ to lost teenagers and young adults. Introducing them to Jesus Christ by helping them grow in their faith and teaching them how to make a difference and to motivate them to walk and live the life Christ planned for them.

WE THANKFULLY GIVE PRAISE TO JESUS CHRIST FOR EVERY ATTENDEE AND EVERY DECISION.....

We strive to provide an exciting atmosphere in a country setting to hear real testimony stories from individuals with good food and contemporary worship, all to prepare the hearts and minds of young people to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will prayerfully go through the process each year determining what we can do to encourage our young people to bring those who are lost, broken or hungry to know Jesus Christ.

Hope Built on Faith inspires young people to develop an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ through praise, prayer, and Bible study. We will make sure these young adults will meet us personally, have counselors on hand they personally connect with that can help them grow in the knowledge and revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ so that they might be equipped to handle the stress of life in a way that glorifies God.

Young people will have an opportunity to develop strong Christian relationships within a loving and fun environment that will fortify their spiritual walk.
